These terms cover the basics of using Hookitlingo: what we expect from you, what you can expect from us, and where the responsibility sits when things go wrong. By creating an account or using the site, you're agreeing to them.
By signing up for Hookitlingo or using any part of the site, you're agreeing to these terms. If you don't agree with something here, the best move is not to create an account, or to stop using the ones you already have.
You need to be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you're under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the site. By signing up, you're confirming this applies to you.
You're responsible for the security of your own account, including keeping your password private and not sharing your login with anyone else. If you notice anything suspicious happening on your account, let us know as soon as you can.
The details you give us at signup, and anything you add to your profile afterward, should be accurate. Don't impersonate someone else or claim to be a native speaker of a language you don't actually speak, especially if you're offering yourself as a teacher.
Hookitlingo works because people show up in good faith to teach, learn, and practice with each other. That means:
Our full expectations are laid out in the Community Guidelines, and breaking them can result in a warning, a suspension, or a permanent ban depending on what happened.
Part of Hookitlingo is connecting you with native speakers and other learners, and what happens in those conversations is largely between the two of you. We don't vet every teacher or learner personally, and we can't guarantee the accuracy of what someone teaches you or how a conversation will go. Use the same judgment you'd use meeting anyone new online: don't share sensitive personal information too quickly, and if a teacher or learner does something that makes you uncomfortable, use the report link so we can look into it.
Anything you upload, such as a profile photo or the details on your shareable card, stays yours. By uploading it, you're giving us permission to store and display it as part of running the site, for example showing your profile card to people you share it with. You can remove it at any time by editing your profile or deleting your account.
The lessons, courses, and other material we've built for Hookitlingo belong to us. You're welcome to use them to learn, but not to copy, redistribute, or resell them elsewhere.
You can delete your account whenever you want. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms or the Community Guidelines, especially in cases involving harassment, harm to other users, or abuse of the platform.
We work hard to keep Hookitlingo running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or exactly what you expected. The site and its lessons are provided as they are, without guaranteeing any particular outcome for your language learning.
To the extent allowed by law, Hookitlingo isn't liable for indirect or unintended damages arising from your use of the site, including anything that happens during interactions with other users that falls outside our control.
We may update these terms as Hookitlingo grows or as our features change. If we make a meaningful change, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the updated terms.
